The Mummy -- 1932 -- NR

This is the original 1932 version with Boris Karloff upon which the 1999 Brenden Fraser version was based. It involves a Mummy of Imhotep, a priest who was buried alive for having an illicit affair with a priestess. He uses the scroll of Amon-Ra to try and bring the priestess back to life after he made his own body whole again. This Mummy is not in moldy bandages; he's a frightening presence. This is a well-crafted monster movie steeped in Egyptian mysticism where the characters have life and the monster is a real threat. He doesn't even have to be in the room to kill you.

My only complaint was that the beau was not very well rounded, but each character had a purpose and a motivation. The Legacy edition version I watched on DVD had an amazing picture to boot.
