So, another Pixar film, and I must say it does right what Pixar does right. Engaging but simple story. Interesting, funny, and unique characters. A fresh perspective using objects that don't normally carry on conversations. A feel good and very satisfying ending.
Cars does a lot of things very right. You open with a self-centered race car whose only interest is winning the coveted Piston Cup and be the first rookie to do it. We get his very clear cut flaw right from the outset and get a clear defined goal as well. He never loses sight of this goal throughout the potentially problematic second act, and this part of the movie flows as smoothly and perfectly as the first part.
Like any good protagonist, he second guesses his goal wondering whether he is working towards the right end, and from there, it plays out admirably.
I just enjoyed this film, and while it is very direct and simplistic in nature, I didn't have any major beefs with it. It was just a lot of fun to watch.
EDIT 1/5/07: And as an addition to my previous review, my girls just watched again (times five or six), and their comment is "Sheeoot!" said Mater style.
